Chester is a rural city found in Chester County, South Carolina, and it is located at the center of a growing agricultural and economic region. It is small in size, and its population is on the decline. As of 2010, only about 5,600 people called the community home, down from 6,500 residents in 2000. U.S. Route 321 is located just to the west and south of Chester, and it leads north 22 miles to York. Spartanburg is also located about 49 miles to the west of Chester.
There are a variety of things to see and do in Chester. Visitors and residents alike will enjoy an afternoon at Chester State Park, which offers camping, trails, fishing, boating with boat rentals, and two large playgrounds. Adrenaline junkies might like to book an excursion with Skydive Carolina, while visitors who enjoy a slower pace might like to visit the Chester County Historical Museum or the Chester County Transportation Museum. Other notable attractions in the area include Cruse Vineyards and Winery, TNT Motorsports, and the Olde English District.
The weather in Chester is part of a humid subtropical climate zone. Summers are hot and quite humid, with average highs in July reaching into the low-90s, on average. An investment in a new central air conditioner can help homeowners to make it through the season comfortably, and they will also boost energy efficiency, reduce noise, and improve air quality.
Winters in Chester are cool and mild. Snowfall is rare, and on average, the community receives less than three inches each year. Average daily highs reach about 52 degrees Fahrenheit, while average lows fall below 30 degrees Fahrenheit. These freezing conditions make it a necessity that residents invest in a reliable furnace or heat pump, and a qualified HVAC specialist can help homeowners to select the right system.
